What is a Prosthodontist?

Prosthodontic training involves a minimum of 3 years beyond dental school. Prosthodontists receive advanced academic and clinical mentoring in the treatment of dental patients. This specialty training involves the rehabilitation of smiles through the use of veneers, bonding, crowns, bridges, implants or dentures. A prosthodontist can restore the full function and cosmetic appearance of the teeth.

Goal of a Prosthodontist

The goal of any treatment is to identify and treat dental diseases first; understand the patient’s wants and needs, and to satisfy these with necessary restorations, both functional and cosmetic. Understanding the biomechanics of jaw movements is imperative to the long-term success of any case.

Why a Prosthodontist?

Most patients recognize their cosmetic dental needs, but rarely understand the true basis of their dental problems. Prosthodontists treat complex cosmetic and functional dental problems everyday. Some dentists promote themselves as “cosmetic” dentists. Prosthodontist’s have the training and experience to apply sound functional therapy, anatomic understanding and artistic impression to every case.
