Activator© was developed in 1967 as an effective, low force alternative to traditional hands-on adjusting.  Many patients have a tendency to tense up before a manual adjustment, rendering it counterproductive.  The Activator© instrument delivers a mechanical thrust 1,000 times faster than one could with their hands!  Since the adjustment is superiorly quicker it does not require as much force so the patient does not tense up or experience any discomfort involved with the treatment.  This way the doctor is able to achieve the joint movement and neurological stimulation required to relieve areas of irritation throughout the spine and extremities.

Activator© is the most researched chiropractic technique with over 130 published studies in the scientific literature.  The technique has always been dedicated to staying on the cutting edge of current research and clinical validity. Studies have been done that display how an Activator© adjustment actually moves the bones 1-1.6 millimeters while manual adjusting is between 1-1.5 millimeters.  Other studies have shown that pain is decreased quicker and patients respond faster with Activator© rather than manual techniques. Research is currently being conducted that showing Activator© as useful means to reduce the inflammation in joints and reduce trigger points in muscles.

Here at Rotterdam Family Chiropractic we are able to use the instrument on all different sectors of the population. The versatility of Activator© adjusting allows us to treat all age groups from infants, children, adults, to geriatric patients. Along with being able to effectively treat patients that are suffering from an acute injury, recent trauma, chronic pain suffers, and pregnant patients without causing any additional discomfort. Also, since the contact point is so specific it also works great on extremities including the jaw, shoulder, wrist, elbow, knee and ankle.

Activator© is a great alternative for many patients that may be a little hesitant on visiting the Chiropractor from a fear of having a neck or back manipulation.
