Implants

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a great alternative therapy for restoring your smile by replacing missing teeth. If you are missing one tooth, Dr. Beland may recommend a dental implant and an implant crown. This involves placing a screw-like implant in the jawbone and after a prescribed healing time, covering the implant with a crown. The is the most natural way to rebuild your smile while preserving the adjacent teeth.

To replace a number of missing teeth implant-retained teeth replacement may be an option. In this instance, a few dental implants are placed like anchors along the jawbone and implant-retained teeth similar to a standard bridge are permanently affixed to the implants. This is a more economical solution than having each tooth replace with an implant and implant crown. Implants can also be used to secure either permanent or removable complete upper and lower dentures with the implants again acting as anchors for the appliances.

How do I know if I am a good candidate for dental implants?

The only way to know for sure is to book a consultation with Dr. Beland. He will do a thorough oral examination and take x-rays that will reveal the amount of bone available for the implant. There are a number of different implant options for almost every budget. Dr. Beland will discuss treatment options with you and make recommendations based on affordability and availability of bone structure.
